The guys on the College Heights Pub Assault were looking for a peace officer to bail them out.

They were the ones being assaulted late in the second period and it was the BX Pub Bandits doing the damage, putting the ball in the net with their sticks Tuesday in the opening game of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association best-of-seven final series at Kin 1.

Trailing 8-4 with two of their own serving minor penalties, the Bandits bounced back into contention with a pair of shorthanded goals from Mike Engbrecht and Cole Paciejewski, and took a 10-9 lead before they left the floor for the second intermission .

Unfortunately for the Bandits, the defending PGSLA champions, Chad Martin continued to hold a hot hand and with eight minutes left scored his third of the game to put College Heights ahead for good. Dave Jenkins popped in his seventh goal of the game for good measure and the Assault won 13-11. They now lead the series 1-0.

Jenkins also added two assists to lead all pointgetters with nine., while Martin collected three assists to finish with a six-point game. Josh Kelly, Nathanael McFadyen, and Clarke Anderson also scored for the Assault. Tyler Gould started between the pipes for the Bandits and removed himself from the game in favour of Jamie Thorne after the Assault had scored to take a 6-4 lead early in the second period.

Drew Doig picked up four goals to lead the Bandits, who fired 54 shots at goalie Russill Mills. Paciejewski and Engbrecht each totaled two goals and three assists, while Jared Rossi picked up a goal and two assists. Mike Stubley and Nick Angus fired singles. Gould and Torne combined to make 33 saves.

Game 2 will be played Tuesday night at 8 at Kin 1, with Game 3 to follow Thursday.

The Bandits could be without defenceman Ryan Waddington, a first team all-star, who left the game in the third when John Makowsky of the Assault checked him from behind into Mills, leaving Waddington with a large gash on his shin.
