Ranked fifth in the 16-team tournament, the Cougars did their part to maintain a high ranking on Wednesday, winning all three of their seeding matches.

The Cougars opened with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-15) win over No. 8 Pacific Christian, then needed three sets to defeat No. 7 George Elliot of Winfield 2-1 (24-26, 27-25, 15-10). In their final match of the day the Cougars stopped sixth-ranked Langley Fundamental 2-1 (25-22, 18-25, 15-13).

In other local results, the 10th-ranked D.P. Todd Trojans lost 2-1 (27-25, 16-25, 15-10) to McRoberts of Richmond and 2-0 (25-12, 25-21) to Lambrick Park of Victoria, then fell to W.L. Seaton of Vernon 2-0 (25-21, 25-17).

Meanwhile at the 24-team triple-A championship, also in Kelowna, the Prince George Polars won their opening match 2-0 (25-17, 25-23) over Belmont of Victoria. PGSS then lost 2-0 (25-15, 25-14) to Riverside of Port Coquitlam and later took on the North Central zone-champion North Peace Ooks of Fort St. John.

The senior girls provincial tournaments start today. The No. 1-ranked Duchess Park Condors and No. 2 College Heights Cougars are playing in the triple-A girls tournament in Vernon. The Cedars Christian Eagles are ranked second behind Immaculata of Kelowna at the single-A tournament in South Slocan. The North Central zone-champion D.P. Todd Trojans are ranked 15th at the double-A finals in Winfield.
