Biathletes from the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club returned from the first B.C. Cup event of the season with 11 medals.
The 15 members of the Caledonia club (CNSC) were supported by more than a dozen enthusiastic coaches and family members cheering them on during the sprint event Saturday and pursuit event Sunday.
Claire Lapointe led the way for CNSC with two gold medals in the senior girls division while Bobby Kreitz earned a gold and silver for junior boys and Logan Sherba, also a junior boy competitor, took gold. The final gold medal was earned by Emily Dickson, in the youth women category, who left Whistler and headed to the airport Sunday after the competition to fly to Austria for the World Youth Biathlon Championship.
Other CNSC medalists were: Leah Forsdick (youth women) with a silver and a bronze; Quinn Neil (midget) also with silver and bronze and Hayden Neil (juvenile boys) with a bronze.
In the spring event competitors completed a three-lap ski loop ranging between 700 and 3,000 metres with a shooting bout between each loop. The pursuit event has four shooting bouts and five laps of skiing.
Age category ranges are from midget (age eight) to masters (30-plus).
The results of the other CNSC biathletes (sprint, pursuit) were: Erik Hoffman (4th, 4th), Ariadne Douglas (7th, 9th), Peter Hoffman (8th, 8th), Mark Hartley (7th, 7th), Josiah Fisher (7th, 7th) and Colton MacDougal (10th, 11th).
The next BC Cup is Feb. 8-10 in West Kelowna. The BC Championship is Feb. 22-24 at the Otway Nordic Centre in Prince George where the team for the national championship will be selected. The national event is slated for mid-March in Whistler.
