Kin 1 and Kin 2 arenas will be chock-a-block with figure skaters today and Sunday when the Prince George Figure Skating Club hosts the Cariboo North Central Regional competition.
Skaters in levels from Star 1 to novice will share the spotlight in the annual event.
The competition starts today at 8 a.m. and continues to 8 p.m., while Sunday's performances start at 8 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.
The three-day event, which includes skaters from Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Prince Rupert,Terrace, Smithers, Vanderhoof, Valemount, McBride, Mackenzie, Quesnel and Williams Lake, started with the jamboree team event Friday night.
"We have 37 skaters, the most we've ever sent, and they will be doing around 100 events," said Janina Kiland, public relations chair of the Northern B.C. Centre for Skating.
Kiland said her club is sending three skaters - Olivia Wankling, 12; Olivia Trampuh, 14; and Myah Milner, 13, to the BC. Winter Games in Penticton in late-February. They will be in action on the ice today and Sunday.
Justin Hampole, 14, of the Northern B.C. Centre for Skating, who won bronze in the pre-novice competition last year at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, has jumped up to the novice level. He'll perform his short program today between 11:50 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. at Kin 1.
He's also entered in a couples interpretive program with Wankling set for Saturday between 4:45 and 5:05 p.m.
Hampole represented Prince George at the Canadian national championships in Edmonton in December.
