Whether you're a rookie or a veteran casting a line, the Polar Coachman Fly Fishing Club wants to get you hooked on the popular pastime.
The club is holding its annual open house and garage sale on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Spruce City Wildlife Association Clubhouse, 1348 River Rd.
The public is invited to attend the free event where members will offer casting clinics, knot-tying demonstrations and insect identifications.
"It's something we do every year," said club member Glen Mikkelsen. "It's a chance for people to come in to gain more information on the club. We have a solid collection of individuals who, if you've never tried casting a fly (rod), are very patient and are good with people."
In addition to tying different flies, UNBC entomologists (insect experts) and other experienced veterans of the club will be on hand to help people identify different species and types of insects.
Attendees can also meet club president Brian Smith, author of Fly Fishing BC's Interior and Seasons of a Fly Fisher.
And if you're unsure of the best spots to get a good catch, the open house is the place to be.
"This group of people is open to share what lakes are best and where to go," said Mikkelsen. "If you're looking for information, we're happy to share."
The garage sale will feature fly fishing equipment and offers a good place to start for rookie anglers.
