The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club proved this year at the 2015 Canada Winter Games it can successfully host a high-level biathlon competition.
The biathlon world has obviously taken notice.
The Prince George club has won its bid to host the 2017 Canadian national and North American biathlon championships at Otway Nordic Centre, Feb. 27-March 5, 2017.
The Caledonia bid won joint approval from Biathlon Canada and the U.S. Biathlon Association.
The season-ending event is expected to attract between 200 and 250 biathletes ranging in age from senior boys and girls (15-16) to masters competitors for a full week of competition in mass start, pursuit, and relay formats.
