Christy breaks down door to ARCA podium

By the time he crossed the finish line ahead of everybody else in Saturday's ARCA West Mr. Quick Lube and Oil 100, Tim Christy had already donated a few fiberglass fenders to stock car racing science.

Considering what happened to him in the previous race three weeks ago, he got off cheaply.

That night at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Williams Lake he left the pavement at racing speed, cut a tire and ploughed into the wall, leaving his Chevy Impala a twisted wreck. The crash broke the transmission, demolished the rear end and tore apart the body at either end.

Three weeks later, his crew in Victoria having worked long days and nights to repair the damage, Christy made the long haul to Prince George for the third stop in the ARCA West OK Tire Sportsman Series at PGARA Speedway. It was a trip he won't soon forget, for the right reasons.

"We worked for this one, and it wasn't looking much better earlier in the day," said Christy.

"The crew did such a great job with this car and we needed this. We beat the thing up pretty bad in the last race and then the heat race turned into a nightmare for us. The only way it was going to make the night feel good was to win this."

Matt Stephenson of Kaleden was second, and Garnet Grimard of Williams Lake placed third.
