The Chilliwack Chiefs saved their best for last.
Craig Puffer's goal 35 seconds into overtime lifted the Chiefs to a 4-3 win over the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings Friday night.
Third-period goals from Braiden Epp, on a power play, and Cole Todd, with 10 minutes left in regulation time, allowed the Spruce Kings to escape with a point but it wasn't quite enough as they suffered their second straight loss on the road.
The Chiefs, playing in front of a big crowd of 2,382 at Prospera Centre, staked themselves to a 2-1 lead in the first period on goals by Puffer and Rory Bell, and Mason Boh added to the total with the only goal of the second period.
Riley Hawes notched the other Prince George goal seven minutes into the first period.
Jesse Jenks made 23 saves in the Prince George nets. Chiefs goalie David Jacobson stopped 22 shots.
Chilliwack (28-16-1-1) started the day in second place in the BCHL's Mainland Division, one point behind the Langley Rivermen and Friday's win moved them 10 points ahead of the Spruce Kings.
The Kings (22-20-0-5) started their trip Thursday night in Langley, where they lost 3-2 to the Rivermen. Prince George moves on to Surrey to play the last-place Eagles tonight.
Next weekend, Feb. 5-6, the Spruce Kings play host to the Coquitlam Express at the Coliseum, their only home days until Feb. 27-28, due to the Canada Winter Games.
