“This means we won’t always be the visiting team,” Steve Wilson, athletic director, said at the grand opening Saturday morning of the much-anticipated Cedars Christian School gymnasium located at 600 Preston Road.
Mayor Lyn Hall, Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan and school principal Shane Nelson were on hand with others to say a few words about the process and what the facility means to not only the school but the community as well.
Included in the celebrations was the opening ceremony, followed by a celebration with cake, popcorn and activities for the whole family. There were food trucks on site offering several lunch options followed by a pep rally and alumni volleyball games.
The new gym was just a dream for a couple of decades, Wilson said and then there were a few key people that started making it happen about five or six years ago.
Cedars Christian School will be hosting the provincial championships for single A girls volleyball in December and are anticipating the completion of the facility with the installation of the bleachers that will hold up to 600 spectators in the coming weeks.
“This new space will make Cedars a significant resource to the community as an event centre,” Nelson said.
