Reid Perepeluk took one more step to gaining regular employment as a Western Hockey League forward.

This week he signed a standard WHL player agreement with the Prince George Cougars, the team that selected him in the sixth round of the 2015 WHL bantam draft.

The six-foot, 210-pound native of Yorkton, Sask., familiarized himself with Prince George hockey fans last year season playing for the Cariboo Cougars of the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League. In 29 regular season games he collected six goals 10 assists and 16 points, along with 60 penalty minutes. He also picked up three goals in seven playoff games.

"We are very excited to have Reid Perepeluk signed and committed to the Prince George Cougars," said Todd Harkins, in a team release. "He plays the game with the type of energy and intensity that is impossible to teach. You notice him in every game because of his speed, physicality and passion. The Prince George Cougars are going to be a very difficult team to play against in the coming seasons and he'll be a big reason why."

Perepeluk, 16, just completed his second WHL training camp and remains on the Cougars' roster. They begin the pre-season this weekend in Red Deer with games Friday afternoon (1 p.m. PT) against the Edmonton Oil Kings and Saturday (1 p.m. PT) against Calgary Hitmen.
