The Prince George Cougars have secured another one of their top prospects.
On Wednesday, the club signed centreman Aaron Boyd to a standard Western Hockey League contract. Boyd, a six-foot-two, 162-pounder from Winnipeg, was a second-round selection of the Cats (43rd overall) in the 2012 WHL bantam draft.
Boyd is the third forward from that draft who has now committed to the team. The others are first-rounders Jansen Harkins and Brad Morrison. Tate Olson, a blueliner chosen in the second round, also has his name on a contract.
Boyd joined the Cougars for their pre-season road trip to St. Albert last weekend. He dressed in a pair of games, a 6-3 victory against the Red Deer Rebels and a 5-0 win against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Boyd skated for the Winnipeg bantam triple-A Hawks last season and scored 16 goals and 35 points in 30 games. This season, he'll play midget hockey with either the Winnipeg Thrashers or Winnipeg Hawks.
