Ty Edmonds of the Prince George Cougars has been named goaltender of the week in the Canadian Hockey League.

Edmonds, a rookie stopper from Winnipeg, got the nod for the national honour after he posted a 2-1 record last week. Both wins were of the shutout variety.

Edmonds, 17, started his week by blanking the Victoria Royals last Tuesday at CN Centre. In a 2-0 Cougars' victory, he stopped 31 shots. The next night, the Royals edged the Cats 1-0. In that contest, Edmonds turned aside 23 shots. Then, Saturday in Kamloops, he made 27 saves in a 3-0 win against the Blazers.

For the three games, Edmonds' goals-against average was 0.34 and his save percentage was .988.

On the season, Edmonds has a 4-1 record. His two shutouts are tops in the Western Hockey League.

Edmonds was a ninth-round selection by the Cougars in the 2011 WHL bantam draft. He and the rest of the Cougars will face the Everett Silvertips Friday night at CN Centre.
