An injury to defenceman Max Martin prompted the Prince George Cougars to deal with the Vancouver Giants Thursday.

The Cougars picked up 19-year-old defenceman Shaun Dosanjh from the Giants in a one-for-one swap which sent 18-year-old forward Haydn Hopkins to Vancouver.

Dosanjh, a six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Richmond, had two goals, three assists and 59 penalty minutes in 38 regular-season games with the Giants last season and also suited up for three playoff games. He collected a goal and three assists in 45 games for the Giants in 2013-14.

Dosanjh started this season in the AJHL with the Spruce Grove Saints and in three games had two assists. The Giants drafted him in the third round, 65th overall, in the 2011 WHL bantam draft.

Hopkins was acquired in a May 2014 trade from Saskatoon along with a third-round pick in 2014, which the Cougars later used to select forward Ethan O'Rourke, in exchange for forward Alex Forsberg.

Coming off a two-goal, seven-point 2014-15 season, the five-foot-nine, 167-pound Hopkins, a native of Victoria, had one assist in the two games he played for the Cougars this season.

"We're happy to add a player of Shaun's calibre to our back end," said Cougars general manager Todd Harkins, in a team release. "He's got size, competes hard and he's familiar with the B.C. Division. We feel that his experience will be an asset to our team, especially given the recent injury to Max Martin."

Martin, 16, underwent shoulder surgery this week and is expected to miss the next three months.
