The Prince George Cougars added a 1993-born forward to their protected list on Tuesday.
The Cats' latest player is Austin Daae, a six-foot, 194-pound Estevan, Saskatchewan product.
This season he's collected six points and 17 penalty minutes with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He also has 12 games experience with the Saskatoon Blades after he recorded two points and 11 penalty minutes with the WHL squad last season.
Kings dish D-man
Roster space issues have forced the Prince George Spruce Kings to move Sam Waterfield to the Humboldt Broncos.
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League franchise took the six-foot, 205-pound, 20-year-old defensemen in exchange for future considerations.
"I'm not thrilled about having to move a quality player and person like Sam," said Mike Hawes, Spruce Kings general manager.
"With the new 21-man roster, I simply have no room for him here."
Waterfield was coming off knee surgery, Hawes said.
BCHL rule changes slimmed the Kings' roster to a maximum of 21 players from 23 going into this season.
Waterfield was moved to make room for defenceman Jared Crossan, who was out with a knee injury. Crossan's return will bring the Kings' complement of blueliners to seven.
The Kings could have more space issues on the horizon, with forward Jeff Earnest currently out six to seven weeks with a
broken jaw.
