Cariboo Cougars off to strong start

It's so far so good for the Cariboo Cougars in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League's preseason.

The Cougars are 2-0 after identical 6-0 victories against the Thompson Blazers and the Okanagan Hockey Academy at an ice-breaker tournament in Trey Thomas and Tyler Maser each collected a pair of goals in the Cougars 6-0 victory against the OHA Friday afternoon.

Returning veteran Chase Dubois netted a goal and a two assists, while newcomer Hunter Floris added a single tally.

Ty Kolle collected two assists, while Maer, Tyler Ho, and Logan Morris chipped in with single assists.

Jamie Ferguson and Aaron Jakubowski split the goaltending duties to share the shutout.

Returning forward Colton Thomas and rookie Reid Perepeluk each had a goal and an assist in the Cougars 6-0 shutout Thursday night against the Blazers.

The Cougars special teams were on fire, with three power power play goals (Colton Thomas, Chris Jandric and Trey Thomas), a short-handed marker (Kolle), and a goal on a four-on-four situation to go along with an even-strength goal.

Jakubowski and Marcus Allen shared the goaltending duties.

The Cougars' preseason continues today at the ice breaker, when they battle the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy at 9:45 a.m. and the Compete Hockey Academy at 4:30 p.m.

They take on the Burnaby Winter Club Sunday at 8 a.m.
