If you happen to be in Vancouver this weekend and want to see a couple of the province's top midget hockey teams, you're in luck.

In Coquitlam, the Northern Capitals meet the Greater Vancouver Comets in a battle for first place in the B.C. Female Midget Triple-A Hockey League. Heading into Friday night's game, the first of a three-game series, the Capitals and Comets were tied atop the standings with identical 13-3-2 records. The Capitals and Comets play again Saturday at 11:45 a.m. and wrap up the series with a game Sunday starting at 9:15 a.m.

The Capitals are entered in the Mac's tournament in Calgary, starting Dec. 26. They open that day at 1 p.m. PST against the Melville (Sask.) Prairie Fire.

Meanwhile, in B.C. Major Midget Hockey league action today and Sunday, the Cariboo Cougars are in Richmond to play the Greater Vancouver Canadians. The Cougars (15-6-3) currently rank second in the league, four points off the pace of the first-place Valley West Hawks (18-5-1), who have a bye this weekend.

The Cougars are defending Mac's tournament champions in the male division and begin defence of their title on Dec. 27 against the Lloydminster Bandit Pipeline Bobcats. That game starts at 8 a.m. PST.
