120:56. That has how long it has been since Cariboo Cougars goaltender Kenny Gerow has allowed a goal.
The shut out streak dates back to Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Cougars defeated the South Island Royals by a score of 5-3. The Royals scored with 56 seconds left in that game and the Cougars stopper hasn't let a puck past him since. In the second weekend game against the Royals on Sunday, Feb. 2, Gerow backstopped the team to a 7-0 win.
Fresh off a pair of wins last weekend the Cariboo Cougars looked to continue their winning ways and earn some valuable points with the play-offs only weeks away. On Saturday evening in Kin 1 the Cougars took on the last-place Greater Vancouver Canadians in the first game of a weekend doubleheader. A solid group effort saw the Cats on the winning end of a 8-0 score with 15 different Cariboo Cougars making the score sheet.
Cougars goaltender Kenny Gerow also saw his shut out streak grow to 120:56 without a goal.
Kellen Brienen, Alexander Ochitwa, Brennan Bott, Fischer O'Brien (two goals), John Herrington, Hunter Brown, and Nico Myatovic were the goal scorers for the Cats.
Kenny Gerow turned aside all 14 shots he faced for the win while Canadians goaltender Justin Wagner stopped 31 of the 39 shots he faced.
The Cougars record now sits at 21-10-1-1 with 44 points on the season which puts them in a tie for fourth place with the Vancouver North East Chiefs and 14 points back of the league leading Okanagan Rockets.
The same two teams will take to the ice Sunday morning with puck drop set for 10:30 a.m. in Kin 1.
The Cougars were wearing special green jerseys during their fourth Annual Mental Health Awareness Night with funds raised from the game going to Foundry Prince George which offers local youth between the ages of 12 and 24 years health and wellness resources, services and support.
