The Cariboo Cougars dropped to 1-1 at the Mac's AAA Midget Hockey Tournament after a 3-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night in Calgary.
The Cougars led 2-1 after the second period but gave up two unanswered goals in the third. Sam Boldt of the Warriors tied the game on a power play with 6:03 left to play and Moose Jaw got the winner from Ben Wourms-Rowe with 1:11 remaining on the clock. The goal was his second of the night. The Cougars pulled goaltender Jordan Fairlie in favour of an extra attacker in the last minute but the Warriors held on for the win.
Mathew Magrath scored for the Cats on a first-period power play and Wourms-Rowe notched an equalizer early in the second. Carter Yarish put the Cougars back in front later in the period.
The Cougars were whistled for six minor penalties, while the Warriors were assessed two minors. The Warriors outshot the Cougars 32-24.
The Cats started the tournament with a 7-2 Thursday victory against the Airdrie CFR Bisons.
The Cougars will face the Calgary Royals on Saturday night. The Royals lost 4-2 to the Warriors on Thursday and 8-1 to the St. Albert Nektar Raiders on Friday.
