If it's August in Prince George, that can only mean one thing.
It's hockey training camp time.
As dreadful as that might appear to some, who don't like the idea of summer disappearing into a winter pastime so early in the season, the Cariboo Cougars have work to do trying to form the team for next season in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League. The best time to do that is the weekend of Aug. 5-7 while the kids are out of school and before the city's arena space gets occupied by the junior Cougars and Spruce Kings.
Forty players have been invited to the midget Cougars summer evaluation camp at Roll Mix Concrete Arena, and they will be vying for a spit on the team which will host the 2017 Telus Cup midget national championship, next April 24-30 at CN Centre.
The camp list will be divided into two teams. Following practices, the teams will face each other in scrimmages - two on Saturday, Aug. 6 (2 and
6 p.m.) and one on Sunday, Aug. 7 (10 a.m.). There will also be a goalie session and individual player fitness testing on the first day of the camp.
