The Cariboo Cougars may have had the best regular-season record in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League, but their players were shut out from the league's all-star team.

Based on voting from the league's coaches, B.C. Hockey selected one team - a goaltender, two defencemen and three forwards - which was announced Monday.

The selections were based on their combined performance in the regular season and playoffs.

Among them are goaltender Liam McCloskey from the Vancouver North East Chiefs, who compiled a 15-2-3 record throughout the regular season and post-season, en route to leading his team to the MML title.

McCloskey was the winning goaltender in the Chiefs' 2-0 championship series win against the Cougars in early March. He also had one of the lowest goals-against averages in the league, allowing just 2.25 per game.

Last week, McCloskey became the newest member of the B.C. Hockey League's Prince George Spruce Kings when he committed to the team after a successful stint at the Kings spring prospects camp.

During the regular season, Cougars netminder Griffen Outhouse led the league with a 2.04 goals-against average in 23 appearances in net, posting a 15-5-2 record.

The two defencemen on the MML all-star team are Matt Barberis of the Valley West Hawks and Callum Volpe of the Chiefs.

The forwards are James Malm of the Hawks, Owen Seidel of the Greater Vancouver Canadians and Caleb Fantillo of the Chiefs.

During the regular season, Seidel led the league in scoring with 17 goals and 50 assists. Malm was second overall with 20 goals and 46 assists.

Another Kings prospect, Parker Colley of the Chiefs, was third in scoring with 64 points followed by Cougars captain Austin Gray who also had 64 points.
