The Cariboo Cougars handed out their Christmas present a few weeks early to the Thompson Blazers.
They all chipped in and left the Blazers a big lump of Kolle.
Ty Kolle, a rookie centre from Quesnel, punished the Kamloops-based Blazers with four goals and an assist on the way to an 11-3 shellacking in the second game of a two-game B.C. Major Midget Hockey League series Sunday morning at Kin 1.
Kolle got his scoring act together late in the third period to give the Cougars a 7-3 lead and resumed his assault on the Blazer net defended by Aris Anagnostopoulos late in the third period. Kolle and linemate Mason Richey traded goals 12 seconds apart and Kolle finished with two more to complete the scoring.
Playing on a line with Tyler Ho and Devin Sutton, Kolle increased his season totals to seven goals and 15 points in 22 games.
"He's been working with (PGSS school hockey program coach) Ryan Howse to keep his head up and bury pucks and as a 15-year-old he's doing really well in our league," said Cougars head coach Trevor Sprague.
"Howse scored nearly 200 goals in the WHL and he works with Renzo (Berra) on skill development. They get out early and shoot and it's paying off."
Richey and Josh Maser finished with two goals, while Riley Coish, Daine DuBois, Ethan O'Rourke and mason Richey also put pucks in the Blazers nets. Power-play goals from Dylan McNeil and Austen McKean and an even-strength marker from Josh DeCoffe accounted for all the scoring Sunday on Cougars goalie Aaron Jakubowski.
The Cougars outshot the Blazers 56-7, holding them to one shot in the first period and no shots in the third. All three Blazers goals came in the second period.
Saturday night at Kin 1 the Cougars had seven different goalscorers in a 7-2 thumping.
"It was good to see our other guys contribute and score," said Sprague. "If we can maintain that when we're playing better teams, that's good for us."
The Maser twins, Coish, Sutton, Ho, Logan Archer, and Trey Thomas all scored Saturday on Blazers goalie Max Palaga. Jakubowski drew the start in goal for the Cougars, who outshot the Blazers 39-12.
The two wins kept the Cougars third in the BCMMHL standings.
They trail the second-place Vancouver Northwest Giants by three points and four back of the league-leading Valley West Hawks.
Thompson (2-15-4) ranks ninth in the 11-team league.
One of the Blazers' two wins this season came at the expense of the Cougars Oct. 18 in Kamloops after they had tied Cariboo the previous night.
Their chance for payback on home ice was no doubt a motivator for the Cougars.
"It was an all-around positive weekend, it was good to score goals on those goalies who skunked us for over 100 shots at the beginning of the year," said Sprague.
"It was a good weekend for Jakubowski to be in net for both games, it's a confidence-builder, but we still need more saves when we break down and he knows that.
"It got scary in both second periods where we didn't show up for half the period. If there was any negative this weekend it was our shift lengths were too long, because we had the puck most of the time."
The Cougars host the North Island Silvertips of Nanaimo Saturday night and Sunday morning at Kin 1, then travel to Richmond the following weekend to play the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
That will be their final league games before the Cougars head to Calgary to try to defend their Mac's Tournament title, starting Dec. 26.
