Cariboo Cats raise Mac's banner

That's when the Cougars will raise to the roof their Mac's Midget triple-A championship banner they won in Calgary on New Year's Day.

The 7:15 p.m. game, along with Sunday's 8:30 a.m. tilt, are the final home games of the season for the Cougars, who lead the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League with a 26-5-1 record.

In addition, Saturday is doubling as the fifth annual Jameson Jones Night.

The tradition started in 2011 when Cats players went to B.C. Children's Hospital in Vancouver to visit young Jameson, who at the time was battling cancer. Since then, the Cougars have raised thousands of dollars for B.C. Children's, and for Prince George families with sick kids who have had to travel back and forth to the Lower Mainland for treatment.

Since that time, Jameson has beat his illness, but because so many other kids from outside the region utilize the facility, the fundraiser remains a tradition for the Cougars.

As is tradition, the Cougars will be taking donations at the Kin 1 arena entrance and during the game. All donations will be given to B.C. Children's Hospital in Jameson's name.

A ceremonial puck-drop will take place, attended by mascot Nanguz, to honour the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

The Cougars were 1-1 at the BCMML Showcase in Richmond on the weekend.

Colton Thomas (short-handed) and Steven Jandric (power play) both scored and picked up assists on each other's goals in a 2-1 victory over the Valley West Hawks Sunday.

Saturday, the Hawks scored two goals in the third period to edge the Cougars 3-2.

Darren Hards and Justin Almeida both tallied on the power play in the second period.
