The Greater Vancouver Canadians tempted fate a few too many times Sunday against the Cariboo Cougars.
They took too many penalties and got burned badly.
The Cougars scored four power-play goals on nine opportunities to defeat the Canadians 5-1 and sweep a two-game B.C. Major Midget Hockey League series in Richmond.
Daine DuBois was the big gun for the Cougars with two goals and two assists.
Jeremy Gervais, Reid Perepeluk and Brennan Malgunas also scored for the Cougars. Radek Hewson was the lone Canadians goalscorer.
Special teams played a huge role in Sunday’s game. The Canadians went 0-for-9 on the power play.
Marcus Allen picked up the win in net for the Cougars, while Nic Hoem was the goalie of record for the Canadians.
The Cougars opened with a 3-1 win Saturday. Perepeluk, Gervais and Mason Richey were the goalscorers for Cariboo. Scott Atkinson was the only Canadians shooter to beat Cougars goalie Zach Wickson. Lukas Shaw took the loss in net for Greater Vancouver.
The Cougars will host the Vancouver Northwest Giants in their next games, Saturday and Sunday at Kin 1.
The Cougars (13-1-1-0) remain first in the league, one point ahead of the Okanagan Rockets (13-2-0-0), who split their weekend series with the South Island Royals on the road in Vancouver Island.
