Braiden Epp had a pair of goals as the Cariboo Cougars drew first blood in their weekend series with the Valley West Hawks, skating to a 3-1 win Saturday at CN Centre.
After Epp staked the Cats to a 2-0 advantage, Liam Blackburn increased the lead to 3-0 when he scored on a breakaway. The Hawks pulled back within two goals midway through the third period but it's as close as they could get.
The Cougars out shot the Hawks 33-27.
