Cariboo Cougars veterans are taking their best shots at earning spots in junior A or Western Hockey League lineups this week.

Netminder Griffen Outhouse is at the WHL's Victoria Royals camp, while his Cariboo partner in the crease, Dorrin Luding, is at the Saskatoon Blades camp.

The Blades selected Luding in the third round of the 2014 WHL bantam draft, while Outhouse signed a WHL standard player agreement with the Royals last season.

Closer to home, centre Justin Almeida and defenceman Joel Patsey, both 2014 WHL bantam draft picks of the Prince George Cougars, will be at the Cats camp at CN Centre this weekend.

Forwards Riley Coish and Chase Dubois, and defencemen Kolten Carpenter and Jesse Pomeroy, are across town at the Coliseum trying out for the BCHL Spruce Kings.

Forward Austin Gray and defenceman Conor MacEachern are in Portland for the Winterhawks camp, while forward Colton Thomas is in Seattle for the Thunderbirds camp. The Thunderbirds selected Thomas in the eighth round of the 2013 WHL bantam draft.

Forward Brendan Moore will participate in the Kelowna Rockets camp and forward Steven Jandric is at the Vernon Vipers camp.

Forward Darren Hards is in Surrey, after he committed to the Eagles in the spring. Forward Alex Hanson is trying to earn a spot in the Coquitlam Express lineup.

The Cariboo Cougars will finalize their 2015-16 roster for the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League season during their fall camp Sept. 4-5 at CN Centre.

Their pre-season begins Sept. 10 on the road.
