Cariboo Cats earn split

The Cariboo Cougars road trip to Abbotsford on the weekend wasn't as hospitable for them as they would've liked.

The Cariboo Cougars road trip to Abbotsford on the weekend wasn't as hospitable for them as they would've liked.

After doubling the host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds 4-2 Saturday, the Cougars dropped a 7-6 decision to same squad Sunday to earn a split in a pair of B.C. Major Midget Hockey League regular season games.

On Sunday, the Cougars found themselves trailing 5-2 after 40 minutes, but they rallied with four third-period goals - including three with the man-advantage.

Steven Jandric, with his second of the game, got the comeback started. Mitchell Williams, Colton Thomas and Austin Gray also scored in the final period, but a pair of goals early in the third by the Thunderbirds made it too big of a hole to dig out of.

On Saturday, Jandric and Chase Dubois each had a goal (on the power play) and an assist in the Cats 4-2 victory.

Justin Almeida and Brendan Moore added even-strength goals, while Griffin Outhouse earned the win in net.

The Cariboo Cougars remain in first place in the league with a record of 28-7-1 and 57 points.

The Thunderbirds are 13-17-4 with 30 points.

The Cats hit the road again this weekend where they'll face the second-place 22-8-3 Vancouver Northwest Giants in Burnaby.
