The Thompson-Okanagan Lakers created some rough waters for the Northern Capitals during weekend Female Midget AAA League games in Vernon.

In the B.C. Hockey contests, the teams skated to a 2-2 tie in the opener, the Northern Capitals prevailed 1-0 in the second game and the Lakers fought back for a 2-1 win in the final meeting. The Sunday victory for the Lakers (1-3-2) was their first of the season.

With the results, the Capitals (3-1-2) slipped into second place in the league standings, one point behind the Greater Vancouver Comets (4-1-1).

In Sunday's game, the Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the Capitals didn't manage to get on the board until the latter half of the third period when Sage Desjardins scored. With time ticking away, the Capitals pulled goaltender Kelsey Roberts in favour of an extra attacker but Lakers goalie Sydney Carter was equal to the task. Carter also had a bit of luck when a deflected shot clanged off a post.

Ripley Burd and Mairyn Tucker - on a breakaway - had the Thompson-Okanagan goals.

In Saturday's 1-0 Capitals win, Desjardins scored the lone goal in the third period. In that game, the Northern Capitals outshot the Lakers 51-9. Goaltender Tamara Williams earned the shutout, her first in league play.

On Friday, the Northern Capitals held a 2-1 lead late in the third period but the Lakers - courtesy of Jenna Fletcher - got the equalizer with 1:13 left on the clock.

Christy Blackburne opened the scoring for the Lakers. Desjardins and Katie Young were the marksmen for the Capitals.

The Northern Capitals will now prepare for a three-game set against the Comets, Oct. 23-25 in Prince George.
