Prince George's Elisha Williams had four points as Canada's wheelchair basketball team improved their 2012 Paralympic Games record to 2-1 with a 65-51 win over Brazil on Sunday.
The win secured a berth in the quarterfinals for the women's team. All 12 players saw action against Brazil with Katie Harnock netting six points and Williams tied with three others with four.
Canada held the lead almost the entire game and at one time stretched it out to a 22-point advantage. A 14-0 run in the fourth quarter by the Canadians secured the win.
The Canadians were led by Vancouver's Janet McLachlan with 36 points and 23 rebounds as she set career bests in both categories at the Paralympics.
Monday the Canadians wrap up the preliminary round with a game against Great Britain at North Greenwich Arena.
Canadian men tops in pool
Meanwhile the Canadian men's wheelchair basketball team remained undefeated with a 73-66 win over Germany at the Paralympics on Sunday. The 4-0 record secured top spot in pool B for Canada.
The second quarter was the difference maker for Canada as Bo Hedges, from Wonowon near Fort St. John, hit six consecutive baskets as Canada went on a 10-point run to take a 27-20 lead. The Canadians outscored the Germans 19-10 in the second quarter.
Hedges, who lived in Prince George while attending UNBC, was one of the game's most deadly shooters going 11-for-18 (61 per cent) from the field and finishing with 24 points.
Canada concludes the preliminary round Monday against Columbia - the team that upset them in the semifinal at last year's Parapan American Games. Canada settled for bronze in Mexico while Columbia took silver.
