Canada Games schedule, venue list released

The heat of summer is now upon us but in Prince George, winter is never that far away, especially for organizers of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. In less than 18 months -- 574 days to be precise -- the Games will begin. For two weeks, from Feb.

The heat of summer is now upon us but in Prince George, winter is never that far away, especially for organizers of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

In less than 18 months -- 574 days to be precise -- the Games will begin.

For two weeks, from Feb. 12 to March 1, the city will host more than 2,350 athletes aged 12-35 competing in 23 different sports over 14 days of competition. It will be the largest sporting event in the city's history.

The 2015 Canada Winter Games venues have been picked and the schedule is now available on at canadagames2015.ca.

It all begins with the opening ceremony at CN Centre on Friday, Feb. 13.

The Week 1 competition schedule includes: alpine skiing (Feb. 14-19, Purden Ski Resort/Tabor Mountain Ski Resort); biathlon (Feb. 15, 17, 18, 20, Otway Nordic Centre); freestyle skiing (Feb. 15, 17-19, Tabor Mountain); artistic gymnastics (Feb. 15-19, Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre); women's hockey (Feb. 14-20, CN Centre/Kin 1); men's curling (Feb. 14-19, Prince George Golf and Curling Club); ringette (Feb. 14-20, Coliseum/Elksentre); long track speed skating (Feb. 14-15, 17-18, Exhibition Park ice oval); short track speed skating (Feb. 15-16, 18-19, Kin 1), squash (Feb. 14-20, Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre); table tennis (Feb. 14-19, College of New Caledonia); and wheelchair basketball (Feb. 15-19, Duchess Park secondary school).

Included in the Week 2 sports schedule are: archery (Feb. 24-27, Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre); badminton (Feb. 23-28, Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre); cross-country skiing (Feb. 23-24, 26, 28, Otway Nordic Centre); figure skating (Feb. 23-26, Kin 1); trampoline gymnastics (Feb. 24-25, Duchess Park secondary school); men's hockey (Feb. 22-March 1, CN Centre/Kin 1); judo (Feb. 25-26, Prince George secondary school); synchronized swimming (Feb. 24-25, 27-28, Prince George Aquatic Centre); snowboarding (Feb. 23-24, 26, Purden/Tabor); target shooting (Feb. 25-28, College of New Caledonia); and women's curling (Feb. 23-28, P.G. Golf and Curling Club).

The closing ceremony is set for Sunday, March 1, also at CN Centre.
