BX Pub one win away

The BX Pub Bandits are one solid outing away from a trophy-lifting session.

The BX Pub Bandits are one solid outing away from a trophy-lifting session.

The Bandits are the proud owners of a three-games-to-two lead over the College Heights Pub Assault in the best-of-seven Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association final, and can put their clutches on the Dale Rolufs Memorial trophy tonight.

Game 6 is an 8 p.m. start at Kin 1.

The Bandits are ahead in the series through a solid gameplan -- get a lead, and hold on tighter than they plan to grip the trophy. Mitch Marsolais had two goals and Damon Calfa had one in setting the Bandits out to a 3-0 lead after one period, and then two-goal performances by Matt Rochon in the second period and Marsolais in the third allowed BX Pub to hang on for a 10-7 victory in Monday's action.

Calfa connected once in each of the last two periods and Grant Stubley added a single to round out the scoring for the Bandits, who got first-star goaltending from Jamie Bellamy.

Nathaniel McFadyen scored three times, all in the second period, for the Assault, with singles notched by Dave Jenkins, who also had three assists, Craig Dunfield, John Makowsky and Chad Martin. Russill Mills was under siege in the Assault nets, blocking 58 shots.

If Game 7 is necessary, it would go Thursday at 8 p.m.
