Burpees will raise cash for 2015 CWG

For anyone who needs a reminder of what's involved in an old-school gym class burpee, come to Xconditioning fitness gym on Monday, March 10. It has nothing to do with drinking soda pop.

For anyone who needs a reminder of what's involved in an old-school gym class burpee, come to Xconditioning fitness gym on Monday, March 10.

It has nothing to do with drinking soda pop.

Burpee Hell will be the theme of day for participants in a Canada Winter Games fundraiser who will do nothing but 20 variations of burpees in a 60-minute workout. Xconditioning plans to donate $10 for each participant in the hour-long classes, scheduled for 6, 7 and 9 a.m., noon, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Also known as a squat thrust, a burpee is an aerobic exercise that starts from a standing position. Participants then drop to a squat position with hands on the ground, followed by a kick back motion of the feet, then a return to the squat, and ends with the person standing up.

Prizes will be raffled off to the survivors of Burpee Hell. The event is open to people of all fitness levels. Xconditioning performance trainer Jay Cook says the goal is to attract at least 250 participants.
