The Prince George Cougars (3-4-0-0) registered 40 shots on goal and got
a goal from Carter MacAdams, but it was all the offense they could muster, falling 2-1 to the
Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night at CN Centre.
No goals were scored in the opening frame despite the Cougars firing 13 shots toward
goaltender Carson Bjarnason. The Wheat Kings had some opportunities of their own,
especially in the opening five minutes of the game.
In the second, the Wheat Kings were able to get the scoring started from a wrist shot
courtesy of Nate Danielson who labelled one top corner on the blocker side of Tyler
Brennan. Danielson’s first of the season was assisted by Zakhar Polshakov and Brett Hyland
at 15:16.
Just under three minutes later, a MacAdams howitzer from the left circle
went top shelf behind Bjarnason to tie the game at one. MacAdams’ third of the season was
assisted by Ethan Samson at 18:07.
In the third, the Wheat Kings found themselves on the power-play and were able to convert
on an odd man rush as Hyland received a cross-ice feed in tight from Danielson
to make it 2-1 Brandon. Bjarnason also drew an assist on Hyland’s third of the season at 8:10.
The Cougars host the Eastern Conference-leading (6-1-0-0) Winnipeg ICE Saturday (6 p.m. start) at CN Centre.
