Four local teams rolled to victory at last Sunday's zone finals and will now take aim at provincial championships in five-pin bowling.
In the boys division, the bantams and juniors from Nechako Lanes were golden at zones. And, on the girls side, the bantams and seniors from Black Diamond Lanes rolled to first-place finishes.
The Nechako bantams, who played at Black Diamond, finished with a four-game total of 2,071, which placed them 231 pins ahead of the runners-up from Dawson Creek. The Nechako team is formed by Ryder Darin, Aidan Hartford, Spencer Ponto, Dakota Giroux and coach Cec MacAdams.
The Nechako juniors played on their home lanes and posted a score of 3,134. Silver-medallist Black Diamond was 419 pins back. Nechako's team features Will Peters, Ben Hendrickson, Dean Florell, Tyler Strizich and coach Ryan Borne.
In girls competition, the Black Diamond bantams -- on their own lanes -- had a winning total of 2,309, which was 294 pins better than the second-place team from Terrace Lanes. The Black Diamond players are Kaitlyn Harris, Jadyn Arnett, Holly Thurston, Haylee Wiebe and the coach is Lee Sheppard.
The Black Diamond seniors -- Ashley Aquino, Caitlin Oakley, Shae-lyn Rafferty and Paige Meise -- put up a score of 3,074 at Black Diamond. That total was 347 pins higher than second-place Fort Bowl. Black Diamond's coach is Jason Kennedy.
In singles play, three Black Diamond bowlers had previously qualified for provincials. Aiden Parker, Kassidy Johnson and Tiana Tecson established themselves as zone champions, respectively, in the bantam boys, junior girls and senior girls divisions.
The bantam and junior teams will compete at provincials March 1 in Chilliwack. Senior teams and singles players will be in Abbotsford the same day for their B.C. tournaments.
Nationals for all are May 3-5 in Winnipeg.
