Rhiana Palfy has a simple reason for why she enjoys the floor routines in gymnastics best.
"I just like bouncing and dancing," said Palfy.
The 14-year-old is a provincial level 3 competitor at the Prince George Gymnastics Club and is looking forward to the B.C. artistic gymnastics championship, which starts today and runs through Sunday at the Northern Sport Centre. Palfy said she'd like to place top 10 in the all around and improve upon her fifth-place finish on floor at the 2012 provincial championship.
"I lost my tumbling before the provincial championship last year," said Palfy. "So I should be able to do better this year."
She said a gymnast can lose their tumbling or other skills when they don't practice for a couple of weeks or if they hit a growth spurt.
"It gets scary because you don't want to get hurt," said Palfy.
The Grade 8 student at College Heights secondary school didn't have any problem tumbling at the B.C. high schools championship in early March when the Cougars won the level 4 girls team gold medal in Powell River. Palfy's club teammates Jaymie Hinks and Reid Powers were also members of the championship team.
Palfy said the provincial championship will be a lot different then the high school one.
"It's definitely going to be a lot more serious because high schools is mostly just fun," said Palfy.
