Jordan Boudreau has a national gold medal to add to his collection.
Boudreau, head instructor at Prince George's Family Taekwon-Do, fought to the top of the podium at the International Taekwon-Do Federation Canadian championships last weekend in Trois Rivieres, Que. He was competing in men's hyperweight sparring and proved unbeatable.
Boudreau, a 39-year-old who holds a fifth-dan black belt, also won a silver medal in power breaking.
Boudreau is recognized as one of the nation's elite taekwon-do athletes. In June, he represented Canada at the Pan American championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and collected a pair of silver medals.
Family Taekwon-Do's Brandon Jennings was also in Trois Rivieres for nationals. A second-dan black belt, he won bronze medals in sparring and patterns.
Boudreau and Jennings were also supposed to compete in team sparring but the team portion of the event was canceled because of injuries and time constraints.
"We had an amazing weekend in Quebec and it was a great opportunity for Brandon to get national experience before heading into a selection year for world championships," said Boudreau.
Next year's nationals, planned for Montreal, will be used to determine Team Canada for the 2017 worlds in Ireland.
Boudreau was part of Team Canada for the 2015 world championships in Italy but a family matter back home forced an early departure and he didn't get the chance to compete.
