Jordan Botel is wasting no time in establishing himself as an impact player for the Mount Allison University Mounties.
Botel, a Prince George product and a 2007 graduate of College Heights secondary school, is a freshman running back for the Mount Allison football team and played a major role in the club's 36-17 victory against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men last weekend. In the game between the Canadian Interuniversity Sport rivals, Botel ran for a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and finished with 159 total yards on 31 carries. He scored his first TD on a four-yard run and got his second major on a 27-yard rumble.
Botel's 159 rushing yards were the most by a Mount Allison player since 2008, when former quarterback Kelly Hughes ran for 167.
For his shining performance, the five-foot-10, 195-pound Botel was named offensive player of the week in Atlantic University Sport.
Through three weeks of play, Botel is second in the AUS in rushing yardage, with 253 yards gained. His average of 84.3 yards per game has him 11th among running backs in the CIS.
Prior to joining the Mounties, Botel was a member of the Vancouver Island Raiders, a team he helped to national junior championships in 2008 and 2009.
