Ariadne Holness de Hiller's volunteering efforts were recently recognized at Sport B.C.'s 18th annual Presidents' Awards when she picked up the president's award for volunteer of the year.
The 10-year volunteer with the Prince George Blizzard Speedskating Club is responsible for the organization and coordination of competitions for athletes, from mini meets to national events.
Holness de Hiller established the emergency action plan (EAP) for the 2010 B.C. Winter Games, which was credited with saving a life when a young skater took a on-ice fall. The EAP has become a model for speedskating events across Canada and was adopted by the National Sport Organization.
