The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club raced to five medals at the provincial short track championships over the weekend in Burnaby.
Keenan St. Rose won gold in the 12-year-old boys event, while his Blizzard teammate Eric Orlowsky followed with silver.
Sylvia Masich won bronze in 12-year-old girls, Josh Hawkenson won bronze in 13-year-old boys, and Landon Young won bronze in 14-year-old boys.
Morgan Aucoin finished fifth in 13-year-old girls, Max Schonewille had a top-10 finish in 12-year-old boys, while Owen MacDonald finished in the top-15 in 11-year-old boys.
Masich, Orlowsky, Hawkenson, Aucoin, and Young have all qualified for the Canada West Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Lethbridge at the end of March. They're being coached this season by Corine Masich and Lorelei St. Rose.
Three other Blizzard skaters competed at the North/Central Regional FUNale in Fort St. James on Saturday.
Nolan Vansickle won silver in the FUNdamental category, while Olivia Masich won bronze in the Learning2Train category for nine-year-old girls. Megan Vansickle finished first in the Active Start event. The Blizzard skaters were coached by Taryn Vansickle.
Practice starts today at noon at Kin 1 for the Canadian age class short track championships. Five Blizzard club skaters -- Lina Hiller, Callie Swan and Lucas Hiller (all of Prince George), as well as Madison Pilling of the Northwest Territories and Alison Desmarais of Vanderhoof -- have qualified for the three-day event. Racing starts Friday at 9:05 a.m. with the first of the 1,500-metre heats.
In other Blizzard club news, Nico Hiller will be in Calgary this weekend for the Canada Cup No. 4 meet.
