Thirty-two skaters and only 10 spots.

The filtering process starts today in Abbotsford for Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club short track speed skaters Tim Hempsall, Lucas Hiller, Morgan Swan, Carley Budac.

They are among 16 male and 16 female skaters competing for spots on the B.C. team for the 2011 Canada Winter Games. Five skaters from each gender will represent B.C. on the short track team at the Winter Games in Halifax, Feb. 11-27 but only three males and three female berths will be determined this weekend.

A second Winter Games qualifying competition in Kelowna, Dec.4-5, will determine the other two males and two female skaters for Team B.C.

Four other Blizzard skaters -- Kadeja White, Nicolas Hiller, Carolina Hiller and Callie Swan -- will be in Abbotsford today to try and improve their rankings in their attempts to qualify for the Western Canadian short track championships in March 26-27 in Kelowna.
