Blizzard members medal in qualifier

It was well worth the 60-minute drive to Vanderhoof for the Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club to compete at the B.C. Short Track Provincial Championships and the Regionale FUNale on the weekend.

Seven skaters competed in the qualifier for the Can-West National Championships and three of them won medals.

Keanan St. Rose won gold in the T2T 12 division, Eric Orlowsky won silver in T2T 13, while Max Schonewille was iron in T2T 12.

Owen MacDonald, Craig Miller and Morgan AuCoin also participated.

Jakob Prins, an exchange student from Denmark in his first year of skating, broke a minute (59.35 seconds) in his 500-metre race. He skated well enough to win the bronze medal in the open category.

Emma Ackerly, Syerra Ferguson, Ben and Kaitlyn Konwicki, Olivia Masich, Aaron McLeod, Noah and Ryan St. Rose, Nolan and Megan VanSickle and Breanne and Justin Warkentin competed in the Regionale FUNale and achieved personal bests.

Keanan St. Rose, Eric Orlowsky and Sylvia Masich will now fly to Selkirk, Man. on March 19 to compete at the 2015 Can-West Short Track National championships.
