Josiah Binnema churned his way to a spot on the Canadian junior national swim team last weekend in Toronto.
The Prince George Barracudas member will now travel to Singapore for the 2015 FINA world junior championships in August.
In Toronto at the Canadian long course swimming trials, Binnema touched the wall in eighth place in the 50-metre butterfly A final, clocking 24.98 seconds.
He was 30th in the 100m backstroke, posting a time of 58.87; and 26th in the 50m backstroke (27.41). He finished third in the B final in the 100m butterfly (54.17) and was 42nd in the 200m individual medley, clocking 2:10.63.
In the process, he set club records for 15- to 17-year-old boys in all of his races.
Hannah Esopenko also set club records in Toronto in the 13-14 girls division.
She posted new times in the 50m breaststroke (33.68), 100m breaststroke (1:11.88), 200m breaststroke (2:35.28) and 200m IM (2:25:05). Her times in the 200 and 100 breast put her ninth and 10th respectively in the B finals.
She was 35th in the 50m breaststroke and 37th in the 200m IM.
Haley Black also posted club records in senior women. She clocked 27.73 in the 50m butterfly and a 27.81 time placed her second in the B final.
Other club records included a 1:01.53 in the 100m butterfly, good for fourth in the B final; 30.80 in the 50m backstroke, good for 43rd place; 1:05.67 in the 100m backstroke for 42nd place; and 2:22.54 in the 200 fly for 24th place.
Sava Yungman saw club records fall in the senior men's category when he clocked 1:56.06 in the 200m freestyle (57th place) and 2:09.84 in the 200m butterfly (46th place).
Individually, Patricia Fortier was 40th in the 400m IM (5:12.66), 42nd in the 200m IM (2:26.84) and 50th in the 200 back (2:26.24).
