Evan Bichon came oh-so-close to winning two snowboardcross medals this week at the Youth Olympics in Lillihammer, Norway.

The 17-year-old from Prince George finished just off the podium in Monday's individual event, placing fourth in the big final. Then on Tuesday in the team event, Bichon combined with Zoe Chore of Kimberley, Reece Howden of Kelowna and Fiona Torello of Spain on a mixed-nationality team to place fourth.

"Made a few mistakes that cost me in the big finals but managed 4th place today and got to do some really fun heats!" said Bichon, in a Twitter post about his individual race Monday.

He followed that with an update posted Tuesday:

"Placed 4th again today but in the team event, super frustrating to miss out on a medal by 1 position twice! But it was still so much fun!"

In the individual race, Jake Vedder of the United States won gold, Alex Dickson of Australia captured silver and Sebastien Pictizykowski of Germany claimed bronze. Vedder and Dickson both competed with Bichon in NorAm races two weeks ago at Tabor Mountain.

Germany won the team event Tuesday ahead of silver-medalist Switzerland and a mixed-nationality team made up of athletes from Sweden, Ukraine and Bulgaria.
