There's no snow for skiing but biathletes know how to run the trails.

They do a lot of that at Otway Nordic Centre getting ready for the winter race season and they'll be bringing their rifles to the range this Sunday at 1 p.m., when the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club hosts the Season Starter Fall Invitational mass start race.

Race organizer Pierre Beaudrry expects between 30 and 40 competitors.

"This race will help our coaches, athletes, and volunteers to get ready for the competition season," said Beaudry, in a Caledonia club release. "Many of our biathletes have already been training for several months and this friendly competition is a way to put their training into practice."

Zeroing of rifle sights starts at noon and the race gets underway at 1.
