Sarah Beaudry of Prince George competes in an IBU World Cup sprint race in Oestersund, Sweden. Beaudry is in Italy this week for her final World Cup races before she heads to Beijing for the Olympics.

Sarah Beaudry of Prince George will start 67th, and Emily Dickson of Burns Lake will be 96th in the start order for Friday’s 15-km  women’s IBU World Cup biathlon individual race in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy.

They’ll be following tracks laid down by the other members of Canada’s women’s Olympic biathlon team that will competing next month in Beijing.

Emma Lunder of Vernon will start 31st in a field of 100 entered in the individual event, which includes four shooting rounds for each participant. Megan Bankes of Calgary drew the 40th start position.

The race will be streamed live on ww.eurovisionsports.tv starting at 4:15 a.m. PT Friday

The four Canadians are slated to compete together in Saturday’s 4 X 6-km women’s relay.

On Thursday, Christian Gow of Canmore was the top Canadian in the men’s 20-km individual race. Gow shot 17 of 20 targets and ended up five minutes behind the winner from Russia, Anton Babikov, who completed the course in 49:46.8 after he cleaned his targets.

Tarjei Boe of Norway won silver, 9.7 seconds off the winning pace, with two misses on the range, while Russian Karimulla Said Khalili claimed bronze (+48.5) after just one miss.

In the individual event, each missed target results in one minute being added to that competitor’s time and it was a tough day in the range Thursday the rest of the Canadian men.

Scott Gow finished 71st (15-for-20, +7:32.3), Adam Runnalls of Calgary was 87th (12-for-20, +9:45.2) and Jules Brunotte of Sherbrooke, Que., was 98th (11-for-20, +11:20.4). The event drew 102 starters.

The top-30 ranked men on the World Cup tour will compete in Saturday’s 15-km mass start race. Then on Sunday, the top-30 women will go head-to-head in Sunday’s 12.5-km mass start, which follows the men’s 4 X 7.5-km relay.
