Biathlete Matt Neumann is in the hunt.
The 27-year-old from Prince George has made the cut for today's IBU Cup men's 12.5 kilometre pursuit in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia.
Neumann finished 44th in Friday's 10 km sprint race. He missed two of the 10 targets and finished 2:49.4 behind gold-medalist Alexey Volkov of Russia, who stopped the clock in 24:41.8.
Neumann, who now lives in Canmore, Alta., was three placings behind Carsen Campbell of Bedeque, P.E.I., who ended up 41st in a field of 86 racers.
Two other Canadians posted top-60 results needed to qualify for the pursuit. Matthew Hudec of Edmonton was 49th and Aidan Millar of Calgary was 56th.
Fredrik Gjesbakk of Norway won the silver medal, 4.6 seconds off the winning pace, and Dmitry Malyshko of Russia claimed bronze, 6.2 second behind Volkov.
In the women's 7.5 km sprint, Leilani Tam Von Burg of Canmore finished 41st and Erin Yungblut of Wroexeter, Ont., placed 44th. Both qualified for the pursuit.
Denise Herrmann of Germany set the pace, winning in 19:27.4, followed by silver medalist Daria Virolaynen of Russia (18.6 seconds behind Herrmann) and bronze medalist Paulina Fialkova (27.6 seconds).
Meanwhile, at the IBU Junior Open European Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. Three Prince George biathletes - Bobby Kreitz, Logan Sherba and Jarod Agra - are entered in today's 10 km men's sprint. They'll be joined at the start gate by Angus Tweedie of Smithers, Trevor Kiers of Sprucedale, Ont., and Pearce Hanna of Edmonton, among a field of 122 racers.
The women's 7.5 km sprint today will feature Emily Dickson, a Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member from Burns Lake, as well as Darya Sepandj of Calgary, Megan Bankes of Calgary, Nadia Moser of Whitehorse and Benita Peiffer of Whistler.
Otway Nordic Centre and the Caledonia club is hosting the Teck B.C. Cup cross-country races today and Sunday. Today's sprint event starts at 9 a.m. with qualifying heats. Elimination heats start at 11 a.m. Sunday's mass start free technique races start at 10 a.m.
