Sarah Beaudry of Prince George posted a 30th place finish Sunday in the women's 10- kilometre pursuit at the IBU Cup biathlon in Rhupolding, Germany.
The 19-year-old Beaudry, who now lives in Canmore, Alta., had four missed targets in four shooting rounds and finished the course in 36 minutes 52.9 seconds, 4:59 behind gold medalist Kathrin Lang of Germany (31:18). Ekatterina Iourieva of Russia won silver (32:27) and Nadine Horchler of Germany took bronze (33:04).
Claude Godbout of Quebec City was the top Canadian in 27th place (36:17).
In the men's 12.5 km pursuit, Matt Neumann of Prince George was 53rd in 40:53 with five misses, 6:02 behind winner Julian Eberhard of Austria (34:50), who missed once. Benedict Doll of Germany (35:03) and Yaroslav Ivanov of Russia (35:07) were second and third. In other Canadian results,Scott Gow of Canmore was 16th (36:50), Marc-Andre Bedard of Quebec was 34th (38:37), Macx Davies of Canmore was 42nd (39:23).
In Saturday's 10 km men's sprint, won in 22:33 by Lars Berger of Norway, Neumann finished 55th in 25:00, 2:07 behind Berger.
The International Biathlon Union Cup is one step down in calibre from the World Cup level.
Meanwhile, at the IBU World Cup in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy, Canada's men's team (Jean Phillippe LeGuellec, Scott Perras, Brendan Green and Nathan Smith) finished sixth out of 22 teams in Sunday's fog-delayed 4 X 7.5 kilometre relay. It was the best -ever finish for Canada at a World Cup men''s relay event, eclipsing a seventh-place finish in 2009.
In the last World Cup event leading into the Sochi Olympics, the Canadians also had to contend with rain and heavy snow, stopping the clock in 1:17:15, 2:41 behind the gold medalists from France (Simon Fourcade, Alexis Boeuf, Jean Guillaume Beatrix and Martin Fourcade), who posted a winning time of 1:14:34. Sweden (1:14:36) won silver and Germany (1:15:12) claimed bronze.
The women's relay was cancelled during the fourth shooting round due to the foggy conditions.
In Saturday's 12.5 km men's pursuit, Green, of Hay River, N.W.T., was the top Canadian in 18th place, finishing in 32:24 with four missed targets, 1:03 off the winning pace of Simon Schempp of Germany (31:30), who had two misses on the range. Beatrix won silver (31:22). Smith, of Calgary, was 22nd (32:55) with three misses.
In the 10 km women's pursuit, Megan Heinicke of Prince George, the only Canadian to qualify, did not start the race. Andrea Henkel of Germany won it in 31:05, hitting all her targets.
Canada's Olympic team in biathlon will include Heinicke, Megan Imrie of Falcon Lake, Man., Rosanna Crawford of Canmore and Zina Kocher of Red Deer, Alta. All four competed in the 2010 Olympics at Whistler. Smith, Green, Le Guellec, of Shannon, Que., and Perras, of Regina, will form the men's team for Canada in Sochi.
