Youth flag football players will hear a few Lions roar and receive some expert coaching advice on Monday.

B.C. Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimiam and his teammate, slotback Courtney Taylor, are guest coaches at a flag football camp at the Northern Sport Centre, hosted by the Prince George Minor Football Association.

The Lions will work with the 50-60 players who are expected to attend on a variety of offensive and defensive skills.

"This is the first time we've held a flag football skills camp," said PGMFA's Jessica Herzig. "Flag football is becoming more and more popular and [our league] has more numbers than the tackle program. It's no contact and the kids really enjoy it."

It's so popular that PGMFA's Flag Football League fields two U10 teams, one U12 squad, four U14 teams and two U16 squads that play five-on-five on the width of the turf.

There are even co-ed teams and an all-girls U14 squad. The league plays all in-house.

Anyone between the ages of seven and 17 is welcome to attend Monday's day-long camp at Fields 1 and 2 at the NSC. Registration is open from 8 - 8:45 a.m.

Players will then be split into their age groups and work on drills from 9 to 11:20 a.m.

Elimimiam will work with players on their defensive back skills, while Taylor will work with players on their receiving skills.

Elimimiam and Taylor will be at Jack Schultz Auto Body, which is sponsoring the day, signing autographs from 12:20 to 12:30 p.m.

They'll return to work with the youth for the rest of the day and wrap up with an autograph session for the players from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.

The flag football season begins April 1 indoors at the NSC and then moves outside at the beginning of May.

Provincials are June 7 - 8 in Kelowna. In 2013, every team from Prince George competed in the tournament.
