A week ago, they were teammates about to pull off a shocking upset at the B.C. Winter Games.
On Thursday, they were back on familiar turf wearing opposing jerseys to renew the Quesnel-Prince George rivalry as junior foes at the B.C. provincial A ringette championship.
The Quesnel Cariboo Pulp juniors skated off with a 6-3 win over the Prince George Ray's Stucco juniors, a not-surprising result considering Quesnel has not lost to Prince George in 10 games this season.
What was unexpected was last week's 3-2 triumph for the Cariboo-North region over the Lower Mainland in the final at the B.C. Winter Games in Terrace -- a first-time accomplishment in the history of the Games for a team from the north.
Two of the Prince George players -- defenceman Caitlyn Zacharias and centre Justine Lamothe --shared in that gold medal moment with five of the Quesnel players they faced in Thursday's game -- goalie Tyler Greencorn, forwards Emily McMartin, Sydney Kaleta, Erin Wiggins and defenceman Jessica MacDonald. One other Prince George player on the B.C. Games team -- Saynia Pickering -- is playing this weekend for the Prince George tweens.
