The Prince George Senior Baseball League hopes to hit a home run for local youth at its all-star game July 18.

All proceeds from the home run derby and game at Citizen Field will go toward Kendall's Kids, an online bursary.

The bursary is in memory of 17-year-old D.P. Todd student Kendall Moore, who drowned in a vehicle that rolled into Kwitzil Lake May 18.

The bursary was created to give underprivileged and at-risk youth, ages 17 and under, the opportunity to train for a year at Freedom Tae Kwon Do. It's the same school Moore attended.

The all-star game is being organized by the league in conjunction with Doucette Realty, where Moore's mom Michelle works.

"We wanted to do something [for the bursary] and it's bringing exposure to it which is half the battle," said Doucette Realty owner Sid Doucette. "It's a great opportunity that whatever is made [from the game] goes toward the fund. This is a good cause and it helps unfortunate kids."

Paul Wilson, who is a Doucette realtor as well as a senior men's baseball player with the Queensway Auto World Red Sox, knew there was a way for the sides to team up with Kendall's Kids.

"We thought, why not have proceeds from our game [help the fund]," he said. "Admission is by donation because we don't want to eliminate anybody from attending."

The home run derby at 6:30 p.m. will feature the top six home run leaders in the league and include a preliminary round, second round and final.

The seven-inning all-star game follows. The league will look at all the players' stats and two coaches will conduct a draft to determine the teams.

"Hopefully it turns into a great event," said league board member Jay Cook. "We were on board right away when Paul approached us."

Any businesses or organizations that would like to get involved can call Wilson at 250-552-3559.
