Of the 34 medals British Columbia earned in the pool during the first week of the 2013 Canada Summer Games four of them came from Prince George athletes.

Sterling King contributed to one of the first medals for B.C. in the pool as the Prince George Barracuda was a member of the men's 4x200 metre freestyle event to earn the bronze medal Sunday. It was the only relay team to win a medal for B.C. at the Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

B.C. won 11 gold, five silver and 18 bronze medals in the pool.

Haley Black earned two bronze medals at her first Canada Summer Games, picking up third-place finishes in the 100m butterfly and the 100m backstroke on Thursday and Wednesday, respectively. Black's Barracuda teammate Danica Ludlow earned the silver medal Thursday in the 800m freestyle.

All five Prince George swimmers qualified for at least one individual event A final, including Barracuda Patricia Fortier and Special Olympian David Dunn.

After competition for Week 1 wrapped up Friday, Team B.C. had earned 21 gold, 18 silver and 23 bronze medals overall.

In men's basketball, B.C., with UNBC Timberwolves' coach Todd Jordan as coach, finished with an 0-3 record in their pool, dropping games to Newfoundland/Labrador 78-65; Saskatchewan 94-81; and Quebec 86-78. But B.C. finished strong with victories over the Northwest Territories 90-18 and Alberta 76-51.

Quebec won the bronze medal with a 65-57 win over New Brunswick, while Ontario and Manitoba played for gold Friday night.
